United States Army Security Agency

9th Infantry Division (Vietnam)

7th Corps (Germany)

I graduated from High School in May of 1964. On Aug. 28, 1964, I left home for Ft. Des Moines and inprocessing into the United States Army. I was assigned to the United Staters Army Security Agency and sent to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri for basic training. After basic, I went to Ft. Devens, Mass. to be trained to be a Morse Intercept Operator. The school was 26 weeks long, and after I FINALLY graduated, I was sent to Herzogenaurach, Germany to the 186th ASA Company. I was there until August of 1966 when I was transferred to Ft. Riley, Kansas as part of the 335th ASA Company, which was assigned to support the 9th Infantry Division. In November of 1966, myself and 35 other enlisted men, along with three officers, were sent to VietNam as part of the advanced party of the 9th. During my all-expense paid vacation to beautiful SouthEast Asia, I served with the 335th, the 156th Avaition Company (RR), and the 175th RRC. After VietNam, I returned to the States and was assigned to Vint Hill Farms Station near Warrenton, Virginia. In 1969, I was transferred to the 14th USASA Field Station, Hakata, Japan. After serving there until 1972, I was returned to Vint Hill Farms until I got out of the Army in 1972 after serving for 8 years, 11 months and 26 days. Most of my photos of these days have disappeared but I will post whatever I can find. If anyone out there served at any of these stations, or with the USASA, I would appreciate hearing from you.
